Five Tips for a Better Night Time Routine
1.) READ – Good Night, Little Blue Truck
Read aloud time is one of my favorite parts of parenting. It’s also a great activity to add to the bed time routine.
As hard as bed time can be, I try my best to make it a warm and positive time. If I expect my kids to sleep well, I should expect myself to cultivate a positive bed time routine. What better way to make it positive than reading joyful stories.
Good Night, Little Blue Truck is perfect for bedtime. It shares a story of being afraid of a storm, but finding comfort and warmth with the kind blue truck before bedtime.
2.) Start Your Night Time Routine Earlier
I’ve found rushing the night time routine and going straight to bed causes my family stress.
When we start early, by changing it to pajamas, followed by a game and story, my children are much more willing to get ready for bed.
3.) Routine Routine Routine
If my kids know what to expect, they are happier going along with it. They don’t always love going to bed, but they love their night time routine.
4.) Include Special Nights
We have two nights a week that we get ready for bed without brushing out teeth. Why you ask?? We have a special yogurt or hot coco to enjoy while we read. The kids look forward to these nights
5.) Special Books
We like new stories just like everyone else, but we also like some of the same stories. We keep a few of our favorite night time stories near their beds, include Good Night, Little Blue Truck.
